The basics
What is Ekrano?
Ekrano is a calm TV player for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. You add the playlist or login you get from your own IPTV provider, and Ekrano gives you live TV with a program guide, movies and series in one app. It works with Xtream Codes logins and with M3U playlists.
Does Ekrano include channels or content?
No. Ekrano is a player. It does not provide, host or sell any channels, movies or series, and streams never pass through us. You bring your own subscription, and the video goes straight from your provider to your screen.
What do I need to get started?
You need a subscription with an IPTV provider you are allowed to use. Your provider gives you either an Xtream Codes login (a server address, a username and a password) or the address of an M3U playlist. Type or paste it into Ekrano and you are ready to watch.
Is Ekrano legal to use?
Ekrano is a media player and includes no content. Whether a stream is legal depends on where it comes from, so only add subscriptions you have the right to use. If a service sells every channel in the world for a few dollars, it is not legal.
There is also a page with free, legal channels for Norway, Germany and Sweden, written in Norwegian.
Set up and sync
How do I add my subscription?
On iPhone and iPad, open Settings in Ekrano and tap the plus button at the top right. On Apple TV, choose Add Subscription when Ekrano asks for one, or open Settings. On Mac, choose File, then Add Subscription.
Pick Xtream Codes or IPTV Playlist, fill in the details from your provider, and tap Test Connection. If it works, tap Save. Ekrano then loads your channels, movies and series. On Mac you can also open an M3U file with Import Playlist.
How does iCloud sync work, and what is synced?
Ekrano keeps your screens in step through your own iCloud. It syncs four things: your subscriptions (the Xtream Codes login or M3U address, and their order), where you stopped in movies and series, your favorites (channels, movies, series and teams), and your settings, such as audio and subtitle language, the home screen, Multi View and the parental lock.
It all lives in a private database that only your Apple Account can open. Ekrano has no servers and no accounts of its own, so we cannot read your data. Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on every device.
How do I get my playlist onto Apple TV?
Add it once on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. iCloud carries it to Apple TV, so you do not have to type a long address with the remote.
Open Ekrano on Apple TV and give it a moment. If nothing shows up, choose Check iCloud Sync on the first screen, or open Settings and look at iCloud Sync. Make sure you are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account on both devices.
Can I use more than one subscription?
Yes. Add as many as you like. Ekrano connects to the first one that works. If a subscription is busy or does not answer, it moves on to the next, and the settings show which ones are connected.
On your devices
Which devices does Ekrano run on?
iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. It needs version 17 or later of the system software on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and version 14 or later on Mac. One subscription covers all of them.
Can I record or download on Apple TV?
No. Recording and downloads for offline viewing are not available on Apple TV. They work on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Everything else works on Apple TV too: live TV with the program guide, movies and series, favorites, Multi View, subtitles and audio tracks.
How do I change subtitles or audio language?
While something is playing, open the audio and subtitles menu from the player controls and pick a language. Ekrano remembers your choice for next time, and iCloud carries it to your other devices. You can also set default languages in Settings.
Which languages does Ekrano speak?
Ekrano is available in English, Norwegian, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Croatian, Russian, Turkish and Arabic. It uses the language of your device when it is one of these, and English otherwise.
Price and account
What does Ekrano cost?
New subscribers get 7 days free. After that Ekrano costs $1.99 a month or $11.99 a year, which is about $1.00 a month. Everything is included, there are no tiers, and one subscription covers iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. Family Sharing is turned on.
Apple bills you, and the App Store shows the exact price for your country before you confirm.
How do I cancel?
You can cancel at any time in your Apple Account settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, or the subscription renews. Apple handles the billing, so canceling happens with Apple, not with us.
- On iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
- On Apple TV: open Settings, then Users and Accounts, choose your account, then Subscriptions.
- On Mac: open the App Store, click your name, then Account Settings, then Subscriptions.
If something fails
What should I do when the connection fails?
Tap Test Connection when you add or edit a subscription. Ekrano tells you what went wrong, and what to try:
- The server did not answer: it may be down, or your network may not reach it. Try another network, such as your phone's hotspot.
- Could not find that server: check the address for typos.
- The server refused the connection: check the address and the port number.
- The address cannot be used: make sure it starts with http:// or https://.
- The server wants a username and password: check your login details.
Also check that your subscription is active with your provider. Many providers limit how many devices can watch at the same time, and Ekrano shows a subscription as busy when all of its connections are in use.
